Established in 2005, Imago Dei offers middle school education to boys and girls living at or below the poverty line in Tucson, Arizona.
Imago Dei is an independent, tuition-free middle school for children of low-income families from Tucson neighborhoods. The school admits children of diverse faiths, races, cultures, and cognitive profiles, believing in the Episcopal tradition that we find God in and through each other’s presence.
In close partnership with families, we are an innovative learning community that affords structured support to help students thrive. Imago Dei never gives up on a child and challenges students to discover and develop the fullness of their individual gifts. We seek to prepare graduates who will contribute intellectually, morally and actively to the society they will inherit.
Unlike many public and charter schools, Imago Dei provides:
- An extended school day (10 hours) and school year (11 months)
- Small class sizes, with a maximum of 20 students per grade level
- Individualized instruction, nurturing each child’s development and identity
- Tuition-free education
In addition to providing quality education in a safe, nurturing environment, Imago Dei will address social and medical issues that might interfere with a child’s ability to achieve at school. The school provides assessment, referral and direct services as well as access to healthcare professionals. Volunteers and parents of children are actively involved in the life of the school.
